Inspired by those mid-century Modernist landscape painters. I came home and painted this picture over the weekend. It is 18” x 18” oil on canvas. How did I come by this inspiration you ask?
I’ve always been a fan of Milton Avery, John Marin and Marsden Hartley. But this week in Portland Maine I had the pleasure of seeing 14 Maine Modernists at the Gleason Fine Art Gallery. If I lived closer, this is the type of show that would have me coming back every few days to take in the work. The person running the gallery kindly found a brochure of Emil Holzhauer’s work for me to take, which I’m loving.
In addition to the delicious modernists, the front of the gallery was exhibiting invited artists, this group is also well worth a visit. Karen Tusinski had several large pieces showing.
