8” x 8” mixed media on board. I love these little cottages. And of course the trees, always the trees. January 10, 2013
8” x 8” Mixed media on board. This one sold at the RISD sale. I seem to teeter sometimes between pure abstraction, and more representational painting. I’ve given up choosing between the two. It’s more fun to teeter. January 8, 2013
8” x 8” mixed media on board. I did three paintings with this palette (or maybe it was four). I was in the midst of repainting our bathroom and trying to find a palette that would work with classic 1950’s tiles. Also, I love turquoise and teal with a dash of red or rust. January 7, 2013
11” x 14” oil on canvas. I did this one in the morning this summer before everyone woke up. I had enlisted the kids in gathering as many really good horseshoe crabs as they could find from Mayo Beach. Then I set about painting and drawing them. January 5, 2013
Art Opening this Friday night! This is a group show of small work… perfect way to start your holiday shopping! November 12, 2012
Here’s another of that same view from Lieutenant Island. Something about this spot really satisfies my desire to see both near and far at the same time. 9”x 12” oil on canvas. October 20, 2012
Good news! Beginning next week, the Bowersock Gallery in Mount Dora, Florida will be representing my work, including this painting. I’m particularly excited because I visited their Provincetown location this summer and I just love the work at Bowersock. The painting above is called “Reaching for the Well”. It is 36” x 36” mixed media on canvas. If you find yourself flying south this winter, come on by and see the work!!! October 7, 2012
"Wellfleet Cottages and Boats" 18" x 18" oil on canvas. I did several smaller paintings of this before I was able to abstract the scene the way I wanted to. October 4, 2012
"View From Lieutenant Island" oil on canvas 18" x 18". I did a whole bunch of drawings and paintings of this view in Wellfleet, MA. I love how you come through a wooded area and before you are steps to the narrow beach, followed by salt marsh. In the distance you can see Wellfleet Harbor and the spits of land beyond. The first sketch I did on-site in pen and ink. I’ve done several small paintings since then. This is my most recent reworking of the image. September 30, 2012
Light Rakes Water, 18”x18”, oil on canvas. I painted a ton this summer. But I haven’t had a chance to post much of it. It was a time of trying new ideas and so some bits were more successful than others. I’ll try to post some images in the coming weeks. Happy autumn! September 12, 2012
Newburyport Harbor 16” x 20” oil on canvas. Just dropped this off at MPG Home Design in Newburyport, MA. We spent a terrific day on the North Shore on Sunday. It is just so darned pretty on the New England coast this time of year. July 3, 2012
"What the Living Do" 18"x18", mixed media and oil on canvas. Marie Howe is a poet I heard on Fresh Air. Often my painting titles come from poets I admire and enjoy. I’m afraid this one is lifted directly from the title of one of her poems. It is more optimistic than the title might suggest. Just what was needed this spring. June 23, 2012
"What the Distracted One is Thinking", 18"x18", mixed media and oil on canvas. The last day of school always makes me a little nostalgic. The early summer light, the passage of time. I’m working from a series of small paintings from a year or so ago. Layers of paint beginning with acrylic and ending with oils. Some of the projects I did with students (especially concerning pattern) have clearly influenced what I’m up to here. June 20, 2012
